The Petaluma Gap is a region under the broad AVA of the Sonoma Coast. Recently, I went to my first meeting at Kastania Vineyards and Winery. After sitting through a board meeting, there was a presentation on barn owls! Barn owls are an awesome aid in fighting vineyard pests such as gophers, moles, and other small rodents!

Flowers Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
The award winning Pinot Noir is now available at Olivers Market in Cotati, CA for a reasonable price of $41.99. This is the only store in the area that I know of currently offering this wine. The Wine Spectator scored this wine a 94 just last month.
Wine Spectator’s write up:
The team at Flowers blends this from estate fruit grown on the far coast around Fort Ross with selected lots from vineyards in the Russian River Valley, consistently producing one of the most graceful pinot noirs in the New World. In 2007, the wine has a brisk, foresty scent, bright red fruit in the middle and delicacy to the the tannic weave. Hints of black tea, pink grapefruit, cranberry and salt all contribute to the complexity. The flavors are saturated while the wine remains transparent. Completely satisfying, this is a wine to buy by the case. Flowers Vineyard & Winery, Cazadero, CA

A Single Night, Single Vineyards and Single Bites of Food…. Not JUST for Single People….
On what promises to be a sultry summer night, we’ll jumpstart with a showcase tasting of Russian River Valley Single Vineyard wines offered by the growers and winemakers who partnered to create these small-lot gems.
Set in C. Donatiello Winery’s state-of-the-art cellar, and surrounded by Pete Avdoulos’ Liquid Metal Fine Art Paintings, you’ll mix and mingle with these rock stars of wine. Franco Finn and Samantha Vega will be emceeing the event.
During the Single Vineyard tasting, taste single bites of local artisan food specialties. Our next generation vintner and grower “Cellar Teams” use amusing antics to promote their Group Bid Adventure Auction Lots that will raise funds for educational programs and future events. This will be the most fun you’ve ever had at an auction!
The Auction ends and the music begins as Franco Finn transforms the winery crush pad into a dance floor for an unforgettable close to the night. So tell your friends. Check out the action lot videos in advance to plan your group bidding. And get your tickets for Single Night now!

Pour Me Some Wine
This is my state of the Union Address…(Sirens, Lights, Smoke) The world is amazing! If you haven’t heard, I now have my intern position for the summer and fall. I will be working harvest with Flowers in the true Sonoma Coast! School is finally finishing up for me as well! I have three classes left before graduation. December 2010, i’ll finally be done with my BS. Once I finish in December I’m going to pursue an AA from SRJC in Enology and then a MBA in Wine Strategies starting 2012/2013. I’ve been hitting the ground hard lately looking for a job pouring wine preferably Burgundy varietals. Summer is almost here and I will be helping out with bottling and can’t wait to work my first job in the wine industry. I’m currently finishing projects for all of my classes, finals week is almost here! That is all for now.
Thanks for all the support!

Friends, Family, Followers!
I’m collecting Burgundian style wine bottles for my 2010 Pinot Noir Vintage. I’m making over 50 gallons of wine, which is about 250 bottles. I’m trying to save some money and help the earth out by re-using Pinot bottles for my vintage. I’m going to wash and sterilize the bottles of course before filling them, but need help collecting these. If you think about it or have some laying around I would be very thankful for them. These bottles need to have the soft sloping shoulders like the bottles pictured on the left not the Cab,Merlot Bottles with square shoulders.
Thanks,
